The dinner set for Friday, April 30, 7-10 p.m. at the UTPA Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex will raise funds for Proyecto Azteca, a local nonprofit organization that builds 35-60 homes a year for low-income families. The self-help housing organization has financed and trained more than 600 families in construction and first-time home ownership in over 50 Hidalgo County colonias.

"Despite the progress Proyecto Azteca has made there are many families that are living in unimaginable conditions. We believe that communities should be built from bottom to top," Javeria Farooqi, MBAA president, said. "We must lend a hand to those in need and help them stand on their feet so they can become a valuable asset to our community."

Entertainment, keynote speakers, games and prizes will highlight the evening. Ticket prices are as follows: $500 per table; $50 non-UTPA student: $40 MBAA Alumni; $35 UTPA student; and $25 MBAA member. Sponsorships at the platinum, gold and silver levels are also available. Donations to the organization are tax deductible.

"We are seeking monetary support to make this dinner a success. The proceeds will go toward helping a family build their home," Farooqi said.
