The Leadership Mission Alumni Association presented The University of Texas-Pan American Division of University Advancement's Development Office with a donation of $20,000 on August 20.
The donation will go toward the Leadership Mission Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship is designed to seek the finest young leaders, and prepare them for positions in public decision making.
"An endowment like this means that UTPA will be able to provide additional scholarships to students, ensuring that students will achieve success and graduate," said Lydia Aleman, associate vice president for university advancement.
The scholarship will go to university students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 if already enrolled in college. Entering freshmen need to have scored a composite of 21/1000 on the ACT/SAT. Recipients must also be a graduate of Mission Consolidated Independent School District or Sharyland Independent School District.
Leadership Mission is a program to acquaint potential leaders with knowledge necessary to effectively participate in Mission's future.
Randy Perez, president of the Leadership Mission Alumni Association, says that as a graduate of UTPA he has been given many opportunities and wants other students to have the same.
"It is important for students to get an education. Therefore, this endowment is our contribution to develop the future leaders of our community," Perez said.
