Are you interested in advancing your career opportunities in the business world? A Certificate in Advanced Business Administration now offered at The University of Texas-Pan American may be just what you need to pave your way to a higher income and a more fulfilling career.

The certificate program, offered by UTPA's College of Business Administration starting fall 2009, is composed of six master-level business courses and designed to be completed in one year. It is directed toward the current business professionals who want to gain more knowledge in business and move up the corporate ladder but whose bachelor's degree is in a non-business major; those who want to pursue a Master in Business Administration (MBA) but have a lower grade point average (GPA) than required to enter the MBA program or as non-business majors need to complete business administration foundation courses to enter the MBA program; and the longtime professional who wants to explore graduate-level business coursework without being matriculated in the MBA program.

"These courses will sharpen the students' business, analytical and communication skills and expose them to advanced, leading-edge business practices which should enhance their opportunities for career advancement and possibly a higher income," said Dr. Angelica Cortes, MBA program director.

The courses will be held at the new UTPA McAllen Teaching Site located at 1800 South Main Street, which is along the Eastbound Frontage Expressway 83 in the Main Plaza Shopping Center adjacent to La Plaza Mall.

"By offering the certificate at our new McAllen site, we hope to provide greater convenience to those wanting to pursue higher education while juggling work and family responsibilities," Cortes said.

The requirements for enrollment include completion of a bachelor's degree; official college transcripts from the institution attended; a 2.75 or higher GPA for clear admission and no less than a 2.5 GPA for conditional admission; a current résumé and written statement of purpose indicating the applicant's reasons to purpose the certificate; and a nonrefundable application fee of $50. The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is not required.

The application deadline for the fall 2009 semester is Aug. 1. The application deadline for the spring 2010 semester is Dec. 1.
