The NASCAR Kinetics team at The University of Texas-Pan American is hosting a viewing party for the Samsung 500 NASCAR race on Sunday, April 5 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the UTPA Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex (WRSC).

This NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is being held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas but the UTPA NASCAR Kinetics team will project the race in several locations in the WRSC, located at the southwest corner of Sugar Rd. and Schunior St. in Edinburg. In addition to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series viewing party, a car show hosted by Gear Head Racing will be held in a parking lot adjacent to the WRSC and will feature local cars, trucks and bikes. Live entertainment will be provided by the Ram Danesse Trio, the Decadent Suits and TwentyFourSeven.

Not pictured is team leader Deanna Schneyer, Diamond Bar, Calif. Their NASCAR viewing party will be held April 5 at the UTPA Wellness and Recreation Sports Complex.
The viewing party will also include games, free food, contests, door prizes and a kid's zone. The WRSC swimming pool and rock climbing wall will also be open to the public. This event is free for everyone.

NASCAR has given five UTPA students, all marketing majors in the College of Business Administration, the opportunity to become marketing brand ambassadors in order to gain real-world experience in the sports marketing industry. Students from UTPA, Winston-Salem State University, Central Michigan University and Howard University were chosen to compete against each other throughout the length of the program which began in January and runs through April 2009. The five schools compete in weekly case study assignments and will aggressively compete against each other in order to get the highest attendance for their respective viewing parties.

"It is up to the UTPA NASCAR Kinetics team to represent the Rio Grande Valley in a positive manner. We need the community's help to win; we want to prove that UTPA is a great school, and that the Valley has extremely talented students," said NASCAR Kinetics team member, Miguel Leal.

The winning university is chosen based on case study performance and viewing party execution. UTPA is looking to take home the grand prize, an all expense paid trip to the 2009 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
