The Pan American and The Panorama student publications and Bronc Radio/TV at The University of Texas-Pan American combined for a total of 31 awards at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) convention April 9-11 in Dallas.

Pictured from left to right are UTPA students Esmer Maldonado, Jenn Villarreal, Naxi Lopez, Angie Guajardo, D.D. Garcia and Patti Montemayor at the TIPA awards ceremony. Not pictured are Carlos Villarreal and Dan Elizondo.
While at the convention, which celebrated 100 years, the UTPA students had the opportunity to participate in on-site contests. In addition, the organizations had previously submitted items of some of their best work for competition.

"We are deserving because our students are the best. They actually understand the work ethic. None of these wins were easy. This state is probably one of the most competitive college-wise in the country when it comes to journalism. It's an honor to be listed," said Fred Mann, communication lecturer and Bronc Radio/TV adviser.
