Have any ideas for a business and wanting to make it work? The College of Business Administration at The University of Texas-Pan American in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week can make that happen for you with The Great Business Idea Contest where you could win up to $1,000.
CoBA developed the contest to encourage UTPA students to generate innovative business ideas that showcase their intellect and talent. The winner of the contest and students with ideas considered meritorious will be invited to enroll in a special entrepreneurship course in the spring.
"The course will be specially designed to assist the selected students in developing their ideas into a viable, complete business plan suitable for pitching to venture capitalists or financing entities," said Dr. Penny M. Simpson, associate dean of the College of Business Administration.
The contest is open to all UTPA students who want to participate. Groups can be formed from two to five members. Participants will have the duty of writing a two- to three-page business proposal and upload a video onto YouTube with a maximum of 500 seconds.
According to Simpson, students should participate in this competition to validate their entrepreneurial ideas and make them a reality, and most of all, have fun.
Entries are due on Nov. 11. Judges will decide the winner based on the criteria of creativity, profitability, benefit to mankind, presentation quality and implementation.
Award presentations will be held at the College of Business Administration Building, Room 110 on Nov. 18 where the top three ideas will be shown and the winner will be announced, taking the $1,000 prize. Second and third place will also be rewarded with $500 and $250, respectively.
Don't miss the opportunity to participate and become an entrepreneur.
All UTPA students interested in participating in the contest will have to fill out a form online at http://coba.utpa.edu/greatbizidea2008/ and provide the basic information such as the team name, contact information and names of the group members.
