Students from Rio Grande Valley high schools and undergraduate and graduate students from The University of Texas-Pan American had an opportunity to participate in a poster session at a Science Symposium held during Educator Day Sept. 22 at HESTEC. The event is designed to promote and reward faculty and student scientific research. The 106 poster entries were judged on scientific content (presentation of problem address, hypothesis and predictions, methods, interpretations of data and references) as well as poster design (legibility, data presentation, flow of information and layout). Students presenting the top nine best entries were awarded laptop computers. Winning one of the laptops for their joint poster presentation on "Living on the edge: The effect of low salinity conditions on an intertidal host parasite interaction" were left to right Perla Aguirre, a UTPA senior from Mission majoring in biology, and Ashley Longoria, a UTPA sophomore from Weslaco also majoring in biology.
