September will mark Career Opportunities Month at The University of Texas-Pan American. For students interested in networking and learning more about their opportunities after college, National Hispanic Professional Organization (NHPO) Academic Chapter at UTPA will host three workshops taught by Rio Grande Valley professionals.
"At NHPO we believe in catering to the students at this University. It is important that students are educated and informed with these kinds of processes. The knowledge students will capture at our events may be applied to their own personal lives," said Felix Garcia, a junior marketing major and NHPO chairman.
According to Garcia, NHPO is dedicated to empowering students to make wise decisions when attending an interview, writing a résumé or preparing for a career fair.
Career Opportunities Month workshops include:
Interview Etiquette: Tuesday, Sept. 9, College of Business Administration Building, Room 111, Noon-1 p.m.
Style Show: Thursday, Sept. 11, College of Business Administration Building, Room 110, Noon-1 p.m.
Résumé Writing Workshop: Tuesday, Sept. 16, College of Business Administration Building, Room 111, Noon-1 p.m.
to Prepare for a Career Fair: Thursday, Sept. 18, College of Business Administration Building, Room 110, Noon-1 p.m.
"The workshops we provide are extremely informative," Garcia said. "We bring real world experienced professionals to our workshops so the students are able to imagine what the real-world expects from them once they graduate."
Workshops will be held throughout the fall semester. For more information about Career Opportunities Month or future workshops, visit www.nhpo.us/utpanam, e-mail Garcia at firstname.lastname@example.org.
