Campus to Close Due to Tropical Storm Dolly
The University of Texas-Pan American will officially close the campus and cancel all activities beginning at 5 p.m. this afternoon, Tuesday, July 22 due to Tropical Storm Dolly and inclement weather predicted for South Texas. The University will remain closed all day Wednesday, July 23 and Thursday, July 24 until 4 p.m. when evening classes resume unless conditions warrant reassessment. UTPA will return to regular office hours on Friday, July 25.
This directive is based on current information about storm intensity and direction and is subject to change as conditions dictate. Students, faculty and staff are being asked to stay tuned to local radio and television stations and newspapers for the latest information.
Currently crews are sandbagging, boarding up, clearing debris and taking other precautionary measures around campus. Students, faculty and staff are being asked to contact Physical Plant if they see something that should be taken indoors or that might be a hazard due to possible strong winds or flooding. They are also being asked to secure their workplace and computers.
No one will be allowed on campus when it's shut down Wednesday and Thursday. Only personnel authorized by their respective division vice president will be permitted on the grounds.
Students, faculty and staff's safety and that of their family are of utmost concern. Employees who feel that safety considerations require them to take leave before 5 p.m. today are being allowed to take annual leave to prepare for the impending storm.
