The public is invited to attend a series of readings and presentations June 3-5 by guest authors as well as a local actor who are participating in the Summer Creative Writing Institute at The University of Texas-Pan American.
The evening readings, held at 7:30 p.m. in the Schilling Room on the UTPA Library's second floor, will feature David Rice, author of "Crazy Loco" on June 3 and author Raul Ruffin, author of "Jesus in the Mist" on June 5.
On Wednesday, June 4, a presentation will be held in the UTPA Student Union Theater by Rice and actor Valente Rodriguez, UTPA alumnus and co-star of the "George Lopez" show. They will show a promotional segment from their film "Los Scavengers," a work in progress currently under negotiation with Warner Bros. studios. Rice and Rodriguez will also discuss the writing, funding, casting, and promotion of film projects in the Rio Grande Valley as well as the unique opportunities offered to filmmakers who choose locations here. The presentation will be followed by a reception in the foyer of the Student Union Theater.
The public is also invited to hear readings from institute faculty and students on Thursday, June 12, 5-8 p.m. at the Outdoor Café at España in McAllen.
