The University of Texas-Pan American wants to give academically talented South Texas high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to get the "Total University Experience" through its innovative Concurrent Enrollment Summer Housing Program.
The program is divided into two summer sessions - summer I, June 2-July 9 and summer II, July 10-Aug. 14. - and offers qualified students an opportunity to live on campus and earn college credit prior to high school graduation. The program offers a room and board scholarship designed to provide residence hall housing and meals, enrollment in UTPA summer classes, and the chance to participate in campus activities and take advantage of the University's state-of-the-art facilities.
To qualify for the Concurrent Enrollment Summer Housing Program, the student must meet the admission requirements for UTPA Concurrent Enrollment; live more than 30 miles from the UTPA campus or document that they do not have reliable transportation to campus; indicate interest in attending UTPA after high school graduation; and complete the process to declare a major if one has not been declared.
UTPA has formed partnerships with many school districts across South Texas to make Concurrent Enrollment accessible and affordable for qualified students through the High School to University Program. The University works closely with participating school districts to place students in appropriate courses and to provide tuition incentives that help cover a portion of their costs.
To be admitted into UTPA Concurrent Enrollment, a student must meet the following criteria: have an ACT composite of 22 (SAT combined critical Reading and Math score of 1030) or be in the top 10 percent of their graduating class or have a 90 or above average in academic courses; submit recommendations from their high school counselor or principal; and meet deadlines for Concurrent Enrollment admission.
The deadline to apply for the Concurrent Enrollment Summer Housing Program is Monday, May 5.
