The governing body for The University of Texas System, the Board of Regents, will be visiting The University of Texas-Pan American campus Aug. 22-23.
This will be the Board of Regents' fourth visit to the University since UTPA joined the UT System in 1989. The Board last visited the University in 1999.
"I'm thrilled the UT System Board of Regents will get the exciting opportunity to see first hand the tremendous growth we've undergone, not only here on the UTPA campus, but in the Rio Grande Valley as well," said UTPA President Dr. Blandina Cárdenas.
Over the two-day visit, the Board will gather at the International Trade and Technology Building for combined committee meetings and a general Board meeting to review the upcoming fiscal year operating budgets for the UT System's nine academic universities and six health institutions, and its administration. The Board will also be discussing the addition of several new capital construction projects across the UT System. The general meeting will be an open session and will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 23.
"The last time the Board convened on the UT Pan American campus was in 1999 and the campus had grown significantly since that time. The Regents and the UT System executive leadership team are looking forward to returning to the beautiful UT Pan American campus," said UT System Director of Public Affairs Anthony P. de Bruyn.
