The Center of Academic Excellence at The University of Texas-Pan American hosted an informational forum Jan. 19 featuring Ben G. Romero, director of information sharing intelligence at the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Romero spoke to students and faculty about his 28 years of experience in national security with the U.S. Air Force and Intelligence Community and answered questions regarding careers in intelligence community fields. This event was one of many forums planned by the center, which was established fall 2006 at the University through a five-year, $2.5 million government grant to provide resources to better prepare South Texas students to successfully compete in all sectors of the global economy. Pictured left to right at the forum held on the UTPA campus are Dr. Edwin LeMaster, dean of the UTPA College of Science and Engineering; Dr. Roland S. Arriola, UTPA vice president of the Division of External Affairs; Romero; Dr. Paul Sale, UTPA provost and vice president of the Division of Academic Affairs; and Dr. Van A. Reidhead, dean of the UTPA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. For more information on the Center of Academic Excellence, contact Nick Weimer, interim director, at 956/318-5342.
