Ten students, who currently serve as leaders in student organizations at The University of Texas-Pan American, earned Certified Student Leader credentials during the four-day National Conference on Student Leadership (NCSL) held late last year in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. More than 200 students attended the conference to earn this award by scoring high on an examination of leadership skills. The exam tests candidates on the skills necessary for effective leadership of student organizations, including running effective meetings, resolving conflicts, creating an inclusive and diverse environment, and launching successful publicity and promotional campaigns. Earning the award from UTPA are front left to right Jose "Leo" Barrera, Irasema Silva, Argelia Barrera, and Melinda Barrera. Rear left to right are Hector Pereida, James Berglund, Natalie Haime, Bonnie Bustos, Cruz Rios, and Tony Matamoros. Since 1978, the NCSL has helped student leaders enhance their leadership and organizational management skills so they can have a positive impact on their campus.
