The University of Texas-Pan American awarded laptop computers July 26 to each member of the San Benito High School team who won the first National Science Bowl® regional competition hosted by UTPA in February. Twenty-five teams from high schools across the Rio Grande Valley competed in verbal forums, tackling questions from all branches of math and science. The laptops were donated by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Minority Impact and the Ford Motor Company Fund. The first-place prize also included a paid trip to Washington, D.C. where the team - the only all-Hispanic team present - had the opportunity to compete with more than 300 schools at the national level.
