Come and experience the fire and excitement of The University of Texas-Pan American Cuadro April 6-8, 7:30 p.m. and April 9, 2 p.m. at the UTPA Fine Arts Auditorium, located at the corner of Dr. Miguel A. Nevárez and University Drives.
The UTPA Cuadro Flamenco will present six group numbers. There will be a septet, "Fiesta por Bulerias," choreographed by spring 2006 guest artist Nelida Tirado. Fall 2005 guest artist Maria "La Cha Cha" Bermudez put together a wonderful "Alegrias" and the dancers have reconstructed her piece from last year entitled, "Orobroy," with music by Dorantes. UTPA Assistant Professor Fred Darsow will also present two large group pieces, "Fiesta por Tangos" and "Sevillanas."
Graduating senior Maria Luisa Rafols will present her senior project set to contemporary flamenco music. Guest artist Bermudez will perform a "Solea por Bulerias" and local flamenca Sonia Chapa will dance a "Tientos."
The cantaora will be Emilia de los Reyes from Jerez de la Frontera and playing guitar and percussion will be Jesus Alvarez from Spain and Benjamin Woods from California.
Ticket prices for the concerts are $12 for adults and $6 for children and UTPA students with an ID. Tickets are available at the UTPA Payments and Collections Office, Student Services Building, Room 115. Tickets will also be available at the door.
