Program to celebrate 16 De Septiembre planned for Sept. 15 at UTPA

A 16 De Septiembre Celebration - "Cry for Independence" - will be held in the University Library Theater at The University of Texas-Pan American Thursday, Sept. 15 at noon. The event is sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Department of History and Philosophy, Department of Music and the Office of International Programs.

The program will be moderated by Dr. Glenn A. Martinez, associate professor and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, and feature a welcome by Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo; a traditional grito of independence and presentation of flag ceremony ; a presentation on "The Tejano Community during the Independence Movement - 1810" by lecturers in the Department of History and Philosophy Juanita Garza and Dr. Jennifer Mata; and music provided by the UTPA Mariachi, directed by Dr. Dhalia Guerra, associate professor and chair of the Department of Music.
