Literary reading by poet Marjorie Agosín featured Oct. 1 at UTPA

Literary readings by famed Latin American writer, poet and activist Marjorie Agosín and several faculty members at The University of Texas-Pan American will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 1 as part of Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology (HESTEC) week's Community Day activities.

The readings are being held during the event to introduce the public to the inaugural FESTIBA (Festival of International Books and Arts) to be hosted by the University March 30-April 1, 2006.

From 4-5 p.m. at the Student Union Theater, Agosín will read from her work and follow it up with a question and answer session. From 5:15 p.m.-6:15 p.m. writers René Saldana Jr. and José Skinner, both assistant professors in English, and Steve Schneider, professor and English Department chair, will each read from their work in the Student Union Theater. A book signing will follow each reading. The readings are free and open to members of the community.
