The University is preparing for the possible arrival of Hurricane Emily on campus. (We are currently under a Hurricane Watch) The Physical Plant is currently sandbagging, boarding up, clearing debris and taking other precautionary measures. If you see something that should be taken in or that might be a hazard due to possible strong winds or flooding, please advise the Physical Plant immediately.

All faculty, staff and students are asked to secure their workspace and computers. Please follow the instructions, which have already been sent to you as well as additional instructions, which you may receive.

In the event that the campus must be closed, we will notify you on campus and also via television, radio and through the University Web site ( both BEFORE and AFTER the storm. We will advise you when it is safe to return to campus for work and class.

In the event that the campus must be closed, ONLY authorized physical plant and University police personnel will be allowed on campus. Please do NOT come to campus as a dangerous condition will persist and you will be endangering yourself and those who will require you to leave.

My personal message to each of you is that your safety and that of your family and the University is of utmost concern. If you feel that safety necessitates you to take leave, discuss this with your supervisor, secure your workspace and make sure that your responsibilities for the University are covered. If it is unsafe for you to travel to campus, please stay at home, even if we have not cancelled classes or closed the campus. You must make these decisions using your best judgment.

Continue to keep updated, thank you for what you do for The University of Texas-Pan American and be safe during this critical time.
