The University of Texas-Pan American's Student Health Services will hold its annual Health Fair April 8 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the University Ballroom.
The "Live Stronger, Longer" Health Fair will feature more than 30 booths from different exhibitors such as Pump 24 hour Mecca Gym, Obee's, Mary Kay, Mujeres Unidas, Planned Parenthood and various UTPA departments.
"The health fair will be informational and fun," said Cesar E. Quintanilla, health education coordinator for UTPA's Student Health Services. "The nursing department will also be conducting blood pressure screenings and other interactive demonstrations."
He said the health fair will also distribute information on wellness, nutrition and staying active.
"It's important for people to attend so they can learn how to prevent health problems and also know what agencies are available to help them," Quintanilla said.
The event is free and open to UTPA students, staff and faculty as well as the public. Free T-shirts, door prizes and snacks will be given away during the fair.
As part of National Public Health Week, April 4-8, the University will host a variety of events including "Healthy Bronc Talk" April 4 in the Student Union commons area from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; alcohol screenings in the UTPA Library, Communication Arts and Sciences (COAS) Building and the Student Union from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., April 7 and anxiety screenings at the UTPA Counseling Center from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., April 5; self-defense demonstrations and video in the Student Union from 9:30-11 a.m., April 6; and alcohol screenings in the UTPA Library, COAS Building and the Student Union from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., April 7.
