U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, who spoke to students, staff, faculty and members of the community Feb. 3, 2005 on The University of Texas-Pan American campus, won the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry April 4 for "Delights and Shadows," one of the 10 collections of poetry the Nebraska poet has authored. A retired insurance executive, Kooser was named to the position of the 13th Poet Laureate of the United States in August 2004. His work has appeared in many periodicals including The New Yorker, The Hudson Review and Prairie Schooner. Kooser is pictured here exchanging gifts with UTPA President Dr. Blandina Cárdenas during his day on campus where he talked to selected English classes, enjoyed a luncheon with faculty and University administrators and gave a hour-long evening reading of his works before a packed room of listeners in the Student Union Theater.
