The University Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the 35th Annual Student Art Show, Thursday, May 5 at the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery of The University of Texas-Pan American.
All media both two-dimensional and three-dimensional including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, graphic arts and work in mixed media plus much more will be presented in a show that will continue until Sept. 9, 2005. Please visit the gallery and see the wide range of wonderful artwork produced by UTPA undergraduate students this year.
A panel from the community and the University juried the show. They spent an entire day looking at more than 200 works of art from 57 students that had submitted in order to select the work that will be in this year's show. The entries were varied, creative and, as usual, will make for a lively, diverse and exciting display of the artwork of many talented students who are taking art classes this year at the University.
We are grateful to our wonderful sponsors for their generosity. They include Charles Clark Chevrolet, UTPA President Dr. Blandina Cárdenas, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services Dr. John Edwards, Dean of Students Dr. Jerry Price, Art Department Chair Dr. Richard Hyslin, and Emeritus Professor Dr. Ed Nichols. All these people helped to give wonderful incentives and provide recognition to these deserving students. Mayra Rubio, one of UTPA's own graphic design students designed the posters, postcards and publicity for this exhibition.
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held Thursday, May 5, at 7-9 p.m. and the awards for this year's show will be presented at 8 p.m.
Admission to all exhibitions is free. Both the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery and the University Gallery are open Monday through Friday, but in May through August both will have shortened hours. The galleries are closed for University holidays. Please call for exact gallery hours in the summer.
