The Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at The University of Texas-Pan American outgunned all opponents in the "Duel in Aggieland," a regional financial case competition held Jan. 13-15 in College Station.
Students from five universities participated in the 36-hour competition, in which each team was required to analyze and develop solutions to a case involving financial problems faced by an average American family, then prepare an oral, written and power point presentation to a panel of business people who determined the winner.
Members on the UTPA SIFE team included Carla Gomez, a fall 2004 graduate with a major in accounting from Reynosa, Tamp,; Jesus D. Gonzalez, senior majoring in management from Rio Bravo, Tamp.; Ana Cristina Tobias, junior majoring in finance from Mission; and Raul Cabrera, a fall 2004 graduate with a major in economics from McAllen.
The SIFE team at UTPA will now join the winning teams of seven other regional competitions, along with each regional host team, at the national competition - "Duel in the Desert" - in March at the University of Arizona campus.
