The Dean of Students office at The University of Texas-Pan American will be hosting a special kick-off celebration to announce its new Student Leadership Academy and encourage student participation in future Academy events.
The celebration will be held at the University Ballroom on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. The program will feature guest speaker Sonia Falcon, a UTPA alumna and first vice president of International Bank of Commerce in McAllen. Refreshments and Academy information will be provided.
The Student Leadership Academy is a leadership development program that offers meaningful learning experiences that teach and challenge students through service opportunities, interactive workshops and insights from accomplished leaders in the surrounding communities. The workshops are small groups of 20-30 students in an interactive setting. Formal lecturing is quite limited, with the learning being participant-driven versus instructor-driven. The Academy offers all services free of charge to UTPA students interested in understanding and developing their leadership abilities. Students may enter the program at anytime.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to make this information available to all UTPA students who would be interested in understanding and developing their leadership abilities. Additional information about the Student Leadership Academy can be obtained by contacting the Dean of Students Office at 956/381-2262.
