Charley Trujillo speaks to students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas-Pan American about his book "Soldados: Chicanos in Viet Nam" Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater. Trujillo, a Chicano Vietnam veteran, who wrote the 1991 American Book Award winner on which the film "Soldados: Chicanos in Viet Nam" is based, explained the war and post-war experiences of five Chicano soldiers. The documentary, written by Trujillo and produced by Sonya Rhee, is the first to recount the experience of a generation of Mexican-American boys who fought in Vietnam. Trujillo received his bachelor's from the University of California at Berkeley, and his master's from San Jose State University. He has taught college courses in ethnic and Chicano studies and the Vietnam War, and is the founder of Chusma House Publications, one of the country's few independent Chicano publishing houses.
