Get ready to show your Bronc pride as The University of Texas-Pan American kicks off Spirit Week Oct. 11-15.

The fourth annual UTPA Spirit Week - sponsored by University cheerleaders in conjunction with the Office of Student Development - started Oct. 11 with an office decorating contest, where eight departments competed for a trophy, an office pizza party and bragging rights for the next year. Additionally, approximately 3,000 Spirit Week T-shirts were sold at the University Center at the start of the week.

Come show your UTPA pride and promote wellness by participating in the Spirit Walk Oct. 12 in the north Quad from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are invited to stroll around the covered walkway and earn prizes based on the number of times they walk around.

Demonstrate your UT Pan American spirit by having your car decorated with antennae balls, ribbon and car chalk. You don't even have to lift a finger. Bring your vehicle by the University Center and Fieldhouse parking lots from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. to have your car adorned while you wait or while you are in class.

Live entertainment and free hot dogs and drinks will be available at the Spirit Rally at the Student Union at noon on Oct. 14. Come watch performances by the Wildfire dance team and the UTPA cheerleaders. Don't miss this opportunity to meet student-athletes and coaches on the east patio.

Spirit Week culminates Oct. 15 with an action-packed day and night of tournaments, music, games, cheer practice, a tailgate party and the lighting of the UTPA letters. Three-person teams will hit the courts to participate in three-on-three men's and women's basketball tournaments, where the winning teams will receive $200 and a trophy. Twelve student organizations will show off their grilling talents during a traditional fajita cook-off competition and will vie for a trophy and the title of "champion." If you're courageous enough to enter the jalapeƱo, hot dog or chocolate-covered insect eating contest, you may have the chance to win some electronic prizes well worth your bravery.

The Friday night fun doesn't end as Midnight Madness continues with fun and games throughout the evening until 12:30 a.m. Oct. 16. The Athletics Department will sponsor a $200 prize and trophy for the most spirited organization. Student organizations will also compete in a dance competition where the winner will receive $200 and a trophy.
