UTPA work study students recognized at luncheon

Work study students at The University of Texas-Pan American were honored April 15 at the 2004 Work Study of the Year Luncheon sponsored by the Office of Student Financial Services. Sandy Guerrero (center), LAC Math Learning Center, was named 2004 Work Study of the Year and received a $300 scholarship. Also pictured from left to right are Demetrio Bazan, University Library Circulation Office, first runner up, and William Morley, work study coordinator, who moderated the event. Not pictured is second runner up, Candice Yanez, Athletics Department. Honored as 2004 Work Study Supervisor of the Year was Marina Escobar, administrative associate in New Student and Visitor Services. David Zuniga, director of Admissions and Records, was recognized as the 2004 Work Study Profile at the event. Zuniga is now director of the University department where he first started as a work study in 1971. Also participating in the event was introduction speaker, Dr. John Edwards, vice president for enrollment and student services. Seventeen students were nominated for the award. The event, held as part of National Student Employment Week April 12-16, is celebrated annually at UTPA and celebrates students' hard work, commitment and contribution to the University.
