For the fifth consecutive year, Hewlett-White florists in McAllen donated 100 red roses for the annual Shary-Shivers Estate tours sponsored by The University of Texas-Pan American International Women's Board. Hewlett-White, established in 1948, served the Shivers family while still living in the mansion and provides the flowers each year to the IWB in order to continue a tradition of placing them below the ballroom statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe in a gesture of honor. The tours of the historic estate, held this year on Jan.10-11, are an annual fund raising event for the IWB. The tour proceeds are used to help maintain the mansion, owned by the UTPA Foundation, and for student scholarships. Pictured left to right are Jamie White, vice president, Hewlett-White florists; Yvonne Anderson, IWB president; Josie Cappadona, IWB Shary-Shivers tour chairman; and Norma Woolsey, docent chairperson and IWB president-elect.
