The University of Texas-Pan American Division of Business Affairs Hotline has phones ringing off the hook with 15-40 calls per month from employees looking for a quick fix to their questions or problems.

The hotline, which was introduced in the fall of 1994, helps faculty and staff members in resolving problems and concerns involving transactions within the Division of Business Affairs through a special hotline number at 381-2724.

James Langabeer, UTPA vice president for Business Affairs.
"The hotline was created to link the accounting function to the users of the accounting system in the departments,"said James Langabeer, vice president for Business Affairs. "Often, the departments have problems with their accounts that are seemingly overwhelming. With a direct link to accounting experts the problems can be easily solved."

Langabeer said questions will be answered promptly by Elia López, director of Accounting and hotline representative; Karla Barragan, accountant; and Richard Wilson, accountant II.

"They are experts at the disposal of any person on campus with a financial question," Langabeer said.

He said periodic reports show that the hotline is being used by a lot of UTPA staff, faculty and administrators.

López said during the past few months, she has fielded numerous calls - including questions related to account reconciliations, specific transaction postings, corrections to accounts, explanations to account balances, access to the FRS system and many more.

"The hotline is very important to Business Affairs because it is a convenient method for callers to obtain a quick response to any business related question," López said. "Faculty or staff are encouraged to take advantage of this available service. The hotline is most helpful to new personnel who are learning the business processes currently in place at UTPA."

The hotline is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Callers may leave voice messages after hours, and a response will be provided the next business day.
