In 1993, the Texas Legislature created the State Employees Charitable Campaign (SECC). The legislation gave state agency and university employees in Texas the opportunity to make donations to their favorite charities through a workplace campaign that features the convenience of payroll deductions as a way to give.

The campaign, which runs annually from September through October, is celebrating its 10th year of existence in 2003. Every year the campaign has grown both in participation and donations. In 2002 over 7.93 million in donations were collected statewide. This year we anticipate another banner year.

This year the local SECC campaign committee along with the local campaign manager-United Way of South Texas and JD's billiards of Pharr have scheduled a special event to closeout the 2003 campaign and commemorate 10 years of helping those in need both locally and abroad.

JD's Billiards has donated a pool table to the local campaign. A drawing for the pool table will be held on Thursday November 20, 2003 in front of JD's Billiards (105-A East Expressway 83, Pharr TX).

State employees in the Rio Grande Valley with donations of $240.00 and above are eligible for the drawing.

The Honorable State Senator Eddie Lucio is scheduled to draw the winning ticket at 12:00 noon on November 20th. The event will bring to a close a campaign consisting of over 25 participating State Agencies, Colleges and Universities in the Valley alone.
