Put on your jeans, or jewels or both for the Second Annual Women's Athletics Fundraiser, Denim and Diamonds Gala.

The gala will be held October 11 at the Shary Shiver Estates, and will help raise money for women athletes from The University of Texas-Pan American.

"The gala is being organized to support the women's athletics program, especially to help them in areas not possible with their current budget," said Dr. Susan Griffith, chair of WAF.

The fundraiser will help with equipment and travel expenses for all UTPA women's athletics including basketball, volleyball, golf, track and field, cross country and tennis.

The event will include a silent auction, blackboard auctions, heavy hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, specialty coffee bar with dessert and live music from Out of Sync.

Some of the items being auctioned are: weekend at Padre Island, a wine dinner for 10 at Johnny Cariño's, an evening for 12 in the UTPA Sky Box at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium, golf for four at area courses, custom made jewelry, two season tickets to the Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale, sculptures from Austin Sculptures, and tennis and golf lessons from UTPA coaches.

Sponsoring the gala are Kell-Muñoz Architects and Grunwald Printing. Tickets are $50 a person and can be purchased from any committee member. For more information, call 956/381-2132 or log on to
