"Working for the University has been one of the best experiences of my life," Peña said. "The most amazing part about working at UTPA was watching the institution grow: adding new facilities, improving the academics and increasing enrollment."

During her time at the University, Peña contributed to these accomplishments by developing recruitment through increased staff, improved technology advances and marketing. Peña said she was also thankful for being given the opportunity to help create the UTPA Visitors Center, which opened in 2002.

Peña's decision to leave the University arose from the desire to spend more time with her daughter, Grace.
