The Golden Key Honour Society is an international non-profit honors organization. The UTPA chapter was chartered in 2002. By invitation only, it recognizes junior and senior students of all majors in the top 15 percent of their class with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

The Society's goals include working with students and faculty to maintain high standards in education, providing economic assistance through scholarships, promoting altruistic conduct, and connecting students with employment opportunities.

Two UTPA staffers are co-advisers for the group - Enedelia Kidd, director of UTPA's Career Placement Services, and Velinda Reyes, assistant director of Career Placement Services.

Ariana de la Garza, a Golden Key officer and a senior majoring in the physician assistant program, said the group has also been involved in several community service projects.

"I'm proud of being part of Golden Key because it gives the opportunity for people to be involved in an organization that believes in academic excellence and leadership," said de la Garza.
