The University of Texas-Pan American now has an Information Booth at the main entrance to campus, all part of an effort to provide visitors with customer friendly service.

Visitors will be able to drive right up to the Information Booth conveniently located off University Drive in front of the New Student and Visitors Center. The booth is being manned by security officers under the auspices of UTPA Campus Police.

Police Chief Howard Miller of The University of Texas-Pan American Police department stands in front of the new information booth, which opened January 8.

"We always want to make a positive impression with our customers, visitors and potential students that come on campus," said UTPA Campus Police Chief Howard A. Miller. "It's something that's been needed for a long time."

Miller estimates that throughout the year the University gets hundreds of visitors a day attending special events, athletic activities, musicals, theatrical performances or just touring the campus.

"As opposed to running around campus looking for a place, not knowing where to go, now we can direct people," Miller explained. " Also, the security staff will have direct communication with our dispatcher in case of safety emergencies."

In addition to directions, visitors can get campus maps, parking permits and even assistance in case of motor vehicle trouble.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The booth will be closed Sundays and holidays.
