UTPA to honor memory of former mathematics professor

Dr. Joseph Wiener left behind a world-class legacy of research in mathematics at The University of Texas-Pan American, and to honor his passion for teaching and research, the University and the Department of Mathematics will dedicate a lecture hall in his name in the Mathematics and General Classroom (MAGC) Building Friday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Joseph Wiener, 62, was a world-renowned mathematician. He died Aug. 27 after being involved in a traffic accident in Edinburg.

Wiener, who passed away in August 2001 after an automobile accident, taught mathematics at UTPA for 23 years.

Throughout his career he inspired hundreds of students and colleagues with his knowledge and love of the field said Bella Wiener, Wiener's wife and UTPA mathematics lecturer.
