The University of Texas-Pan American Student Financial Services Office was recently presented with a $10,000 contribution from the South Texas Higher Education Foundation (STHEF) to benefit student scholarships.
For the third year in a row, STHEF has donated funds for UTPA scholarships. The University received $3,000 the first year and $4,000 the second year.
"We are very grateful for the support the South Texas Higher Education Foundation has given us through the years," said Michelle Alvarado, director for the Student Financial Services Office.
"Scholarships play a vital role in the advancement of education at UTPA because they offer an opportunity for UTPA to work in partnership with neighboring businesses and work toward a mutual goal - to help UTPA students achieve their goal of pursuing a higher education."
The donation will be used to provide 10 scholarships for UTPA students. Recipients of the scholarship this year are Debra Jauregui, Piero Vallarino, Lorena Trevino, Veronica Vasquez, Mariana Mugica, Omar Mata, Monika Hanna, Claudette Alvarez, Clarissa Guerra and Julie Gomez.
