Global Week 2002 - Asia and Europe in the 21st Century

The University of Texas-Pan American Center for International Studies is getting ready to kick off Global Week 2002 with this year's conference to focus on "Asia and Europe in the 21st Century", Nov. 18-22.

Global Week is a cultural celebration held annually at UTPA under the direction of Dr. Gilbert Cardenas, assistant vice president for International Studies.

The week gets started on the evening of Monday, Nov. 18, with remarks from UTPA President Dr. Miguel A. Névarez, and a panel discussion on "Mexico and Europe" featuring Dr. Mauricio Cervantes of ITESM to follow.

There are close to 20 panel discussions scheduled on political, economic and environmental topics ranging from "Leadership and Religion in the Middle East" to "Global Warming in the 21st Century." Those panels take place Tuesday - Thursday on the first floor of the College of Arts and Sciences building. Wednesday, Consuls from Korea, Japan and China are scheduled to take part in a session on culture, education and trade.

Cultural awareness events, such as a Chinese art exhibit, Asian food festival and a European film festival, are scheduled throughout the week on campus.
