A College for Texans campaign will kick off Thursday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Med High Biblioteca Las Americas, located at Mile 2 west at Expressway 83 in Mercedes, as part of Closing the Gaps by 2015, which was mandated by Senate Bill 573 of the 2001 Texas Legislature.
This is an unprecedented statewide campaign to tell students, their parents and others who influence them about the benefits of higher education and how to prepare for it academically and financially, and to motivate students to pursue a higher education.
The statewide campaign is being launched throughout various regions this week. This event is a coordinated effort to target all of the Rio Grande Valley as we plant the seed in the minds of our youth that they can go to college!
Attending the campaign will be representatives from Region One, GEAR UP, Tech Prep of the Rio Grande Valley, The University of Texas-Pan American, South Texas Community College, Texas State Technical College, The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, elected officials from Hidalgo and Cameron counties, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
