Wal-Mart donates $10,000 for student scholarships

Theresa Barrera, vice president, divisional merchandise manager for Wal-Mart Stores Seasonal Division, and a member of The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation Board of Trustees, presented board president Roel "Roy" Martinez with a $10,000 donation for student scholarships at the start of the Board's quarterly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the International Trade and Technology Building.

"We get great people coming out of this University and we want to continue getting great people," Barrera said. "We hope with this contribution towards scholarships, we'll help fund the education of future Wal-Mart associates."

She said Wal-Mart has experienced a great partnership with the University and noted that UTPA alumni have the best retention rate of hires from universities.
