Filled with exciting activities including silent and live auctions, casino, live music, dancing, and beverages, The University of Texas-Pan American Women's Athletics Foundation will host a grand masquerade ball Saturday, October 26 at the Shary Estate in Sharyland.
The event - which is part of the University's 75th anniversary celebration - will help support all UTPA women's athletics including basketball, volleyball, golf, track and field, cross country and tennis. A portion of the funds raised at the ball will be donated to the Ann LaMantia Endowed Scholarship for women.
"The funds raised will be used to enrich the programs in ways not possible within current funding limits," said Dr. Susan Griffith, chair of the Women's Athletics Foundation.
"For everyone who likes to get out for an evening, dress up, dance and have a good time, there's no better way than to come to the Masquerade Ball where you know the proceeds will help UTPA female athletes."
Being featured at the event is a live auction with Continental Airline tickets to anywhere in the United States; a wine dinner for 20 at the Cornerstone Grill; a day-long nature watch, photography instruction and lunch for six sponsored by Audrey and John Martin; a weekend at South Padre Island, including hotel accommodations, dinner at Scampi's and golf; the UTPA box at the Road Runners game for 14 people including refreshments from Game Time; a javelina hunt for two; sports equipment; golf outings; and original art work. Those attending the event will also receive $25 in chips to be used in the casino, and enjoy live music from Out of Sync.
Sponsoring the event is L&F Distributors, Feldman's Liquors, Coca Cola Company, Grunwald Printing (Corpus Christi), Today's Office Centre, Life Care Hospitals, Molina's Mexican Restaurant, Spence Cement.
Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the UTPA Athletics office, PEC 132. For details call 956/316-7146 or 956/781-1500 during the day, or 386-0380 in the evening.
