The City of Weslaco honored The University of Texas-Pan American with a proclamation heralding the University's role in fulfilling the educational needs of South Texas, Thursday, Aug. 22.

The proclamation - which was done in commemoration of the University's 75th anniversary - was presented to Carol Rausch, assistant to the president, during a ceremony at Weslaco City Hall.

"I am extremely honored to receive this proclamation on behalf of Dr. Nevárez and the University," Rausch said. "It gives me great pride to be a part of an institution that has served as the educational leader for South Texas, especially as we prepare to celebrate our institution's 75th anniversary."

Weslaco city officials expressed gratitude to the University for the opportunities it has provided to the community, and vowed their continued support in working with the University to support higher education.

"We all owe Pan Am so much," said Joe Sanchez, Weslaco mayor. "Since 1927, our friends, families and neighbors have taken advantage of the opportunities and the curriculum offered by the University to help improve the quality of life for all of us."

The Weslaco proclamation is just one of 39 received by UTPA in honor of it's 75th anniversary.
