The University of Texas-Pan American hosted more than 360 high school students Friday, April 12 as part of a weeklong statewide event recognizing more than 14,000 students with high academic standards. Hosted by the State Board of Education, the eighth annual Texas Celebrations of Educational Excellence honors the state's scholars. Each student received a medallion and congratulatory letter from Gov. Rick Perry. The honored students are often Academic Decathlon winners, National Merit Scholars and top-ranking students in their class. Also honored are students who have achieved academic distinction in mathematics, science, social studies or English language arts.
