The Office of Student Development at The University of Texas-Pan American recognized student organizations and individuals Wednesday, April 24 at the third annual Club Awards Reception at the UTPA Student Union Theatre.
The American Sign Language Club received the "Service Project of the Year" award for "Bridging the Gap." At this event, Randy Melton of the Houston Police Department discussed his work in educating police departments about the deaf community.
For the second straight year, the Pre-Medical/Bio-Medical Society was named "Organization of the Year" for its contribution to the University and the community. Jeanette Broshears was given the "Advisor of the Year" award for her dedication to Lambda Delta, the freshman honor society.
Also, a new award, "Student Leader of the Year," was presented. Melisa Castaneda was honored for her dedication to the American Sign Language Club and the United Council of Student Organizations.
