Dr. Marian Monta, communication professor at The University of Texas-Pan American, detailed plans for upcoming University events, including a 75th anniversary celebration, during the UTPA Alumni Association Faculty Forum Wednesday, Feb. 6 at The Tower Club in McAllen.

Dr. Marian Monta, UTPA communications professor, spoke about plans for upcoming University events, including the 75th anniversary celebration, during the recent UTPA Alumni Association Faculty Forum at The Tower Club in McAllen.
"There is a lot going on right now in the Valley, and most of it is coming from Pan Am," Monta said. "One of the most exciting events is our 75th anniversary. I hope everyone will be there to join us as we sing 'Happy Birthday' to the University."

The yearlong celebration, which runs from September 2002 to August 2003, will include various events and activities. The UTPA Department of Communication will dedicate two plays to the celebration.

"We were trying to find out what was showing in the theaters 75 years ago, and that was a play called Good News," Monta said. "We're going to do a remake of the play."

The Faculty Forum series gives the Alumni Association the opportunity to shine the spotlight on prominent faculty members who are invited to talk about their areas of expertise.
