The Edinburg 2020 Cultural Activities Committee is reviving its popular Valentine Day event at The University of Texas-Pan American Ballroom, a dinner theatre complete with a red rose for the ladies, a chicken dinner with wine and a romantic play.
Wine service begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The play, which is slightly more than an hour long, begins at 8 p.m. The $40 ticket includes a tax-deductible contribution for theatre scholarships.
This season's offering is a staged reading of "Elizabeth and Robert," written and directed by James Hawley. He and his wife Alice will reprise the roles they successfully presented last year at the University Theatre.
The play is comprised of selected love letter actually written by two of England's best known and loved poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. Their true courtship story is one of the world's most romantic tales, and Hawley's play tells it primarily in their own words through their letters and poems to each other.
Tickets are available from any committee member, The University of Texas-Pan American University Theatre (956/381-3581) and the Medical Plaza Pharmacy (956/318-5159) at the Edinburg Regional Hospital.
