Dr. Lokenath Debnath, Department of Mathematics chair and professor at The University of Texas-Pan American, has been selected to serve on the editorial board of one of the country's most prestigious engineering journals - The International Journal of Engineering Science.

Dr. Lokenath Debnath, Department of Mathematics chair and professor, has been selected to serve on the editorial board of "The International Journal of Engineering Science," one of the country's premier engineering journals.

"I am very pleased and feel honored to serve on the 40-year-old and prestigious International Journal of Engineering Science," said Debnath. "I believe that my selection will add some more prestige to UTPA and The University of Texas System."

The board is comprised of 25 international members from England, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada, France, Russia, the Middle East and the United States. Each member is asked to encourage authors in various engineering fields to submit research work for publication.

"Some of the duties of board members are to receive research papers from authors and decide on their acceptance, revision and rejection," Debnath said. "I will be encouraging our graduate students and faculty to submit their papers for publication."

Debnath - who will be on the editorial board for three years - is the author and co-author of seven graduate level books and research monographs. He has been chair of the UTPA mathematics department for five months.

Elsevier Science Ltd., the world's largest publishing company, publishes The International Journal of Engineering Science. Cemal Eringen, emeritus professor of mechanical engineering at Princeton University, is editor-in-chief.
