The University of Texas Pan-American University Theatre 2001-2002 season begins Oct. 24 with the play "Woyzeck" at the recently renamed Albert L. Jeffers Theatre in the Communication Arts and Science Building.
The play runs Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and closes with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. It is directed by Etzel Cardena, Department of Psychology and Anthropology chair and experienced stage director.
The second production is an audience favorite, "A Christmas Carol" by UTPA graduate Jeff Marquis. This holiday staple, directed by creative drama teacher Kate Ellis, runs Dec. 5-9 at the Jeffers Theatre, and a few school children matinees are planned. Call 956/381-3581 for student matinee bookings.
The spring season opens with "Dinner With Friends" by Donald Marguiles. The Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, directed by Eric Wiley, recently closed on Broadway. The four-character play examines modern marriage and its complexities.
The University Theatre season closes April 11-14 at the Fine Arts Auditorium with "Fiddler on the Roof." The production, co-sponsored by the UTPA Department of Music, features an orchestra and a chorus of singers and dancers.
Ticket reservations may be made by calling 381-3581. Season subscriptions for the four main stage plays are $30, saving the price of one ticket and guaranteeing the best available seats for each performance.
Individual reserved seats are $10 each, and general admission seats are sold at the box office an hour before each performance for $5. UTPA students, faculty and staff are free with one guest, and tickets for students and faculty from other colleges and high schools are $3 each.
