The University of Texas-Pan American will continue to hold classes and maintain regular business hours.

This decision is consistent with the Governor's decision with respect to the Capitol and the UT System's decision that it is better for the health of our community to continue as well as we can with the normal business of campus, including holding classes and regularly scheduled scholarly activities.

However, all celebratory activities and events scheduled for this week have been postponed or canceled out of respect for the tremendous loss of life and tragic events of this morning in New York, Washington and other locations.

As of 9:30 a.m. we had heightened security on campus, the Student Union was set up for students to view news reports and counselors were set up in the Student Union to assist students, faculty or staff in need of their services and flags were lowered to half-staff.

Counselors will remain in place in the Student Union tonight until 7 p.m. They will relocate back to their offices in Room 513 of the Student Services Building from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m..
