Robert Pulido, local Tejano singing sensation, is sponsoring a scholarship fund-raising concert for The University of Texas-Pan American May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Edinburg City Auditorium.

Pulido, a 1973 graduate of the UTPA Department of Music, has dedicated one concert per year to raise scholarship funds for University music students. Scholarship recipient selection is based on musical qualifications and financial need

The concert also will feature the UTPA Mariachi, Happy the Comedian, Roberto Pulido y Los Clasicos and Alma Pulido. Joe Morales of KIWW radio will serve as master of ceremonies.

After teaching at PSJA High School for a short time, Pulido established "Roberto Pulido y Los Clasicos." He won his first Tejano Music Award for male vocalist in 1980 and has remained very popular today. In the 1990s, he continued producing albums and still maintains a strong popularity as "El Primo."

General admission tickets are $15 each at the door, and tables are available for $1,000 and $500. For more information, contact the Department of Music at 956/381-3471. For ticket information, contact Joel Pulido at 383-3722.
