Inter National Bank will present a $20,000 contribution Monday, April 16 to The University of Texas-Pan American to establish a new scholarship/internship program for business students.
The presentation is at 2 p.m. at the International Trade and Technology Building. Scheduled to attend are UTPA President Dr. Miguel A. Nevárez; Carlos I. Garza, Inter National Bank president and CEO; Roland S. Arriola, UTPA vice president for External Affairs; and Dr. John Emery, dean of the College of Business Administration.
The donation will provide five $4,000 scholarships for tuition and fees for students in the College of Business Administration. Preference will be given to students majoring in accounting and/or finance.
Scholarship recipients must participate in a minimum 20-hour-per-week paid internship at a local Inter National Bank branch. Students will rotate through the bank during their internship, gaining experience in loan review/credit analysis, the note department, accounting and bookkeeping.
To qualify, a student must be a U.S. citizen enrolled full time (at least 12 hours) as a junior or senior with at least a 2.8 GPA. Applicants also must demonstrate a financial need and secure references from business professors.
Recipients will be selected by a special committee that includes professors from the College of Business Administration and representatives from Student Financial Services and Inter National Bank.
Students can receive the scholarship on a per semester basis for up to four semesters if minimum enrollment, GPA and major requirements are maintained.
